Performance Standard 2: Instructional Planning The teacher plans using the
Virginia Standards of Learning, the school’s curriculum, effective
strategies, resources, and data to meet the needs of all students. Reflexive
Statement: Multiple resources are
utilized to develop course content to be covered throughout the year. A primary objective is to prepare students for
the next sequence course available in the student’s educational journey as
well as fill any deficient areas in student knowledge. Course development not only includes
challenging content, but a collective review of concepts needed throughout
the lesson. The review of algebraic
techniques needed to perform well are incorporated either into the lesson
notes or demonstrated in detailed during content presentation. Multiple textbook and internet resources
are utilized in an attempt to provide accurate, informative college level
instructional content of the course objectives. One request of graduating senior students
is to email a copy of their college syllabus for any math course taken. Viewing what various colleges are
incorporating into their subjects provides a guiding goal of the depth and
content I need to cover to provide student preparation for the next
mathematical course taken. A
collection of resources from AP Central and NCTM standards are reviewed to
assure proper course content. To assist students with their busy schedules,
tentative assignments sheets are provided to enable students’ easy access to
either work ahead or be informed as to sequencing of the course. Necessary adaptations to assignments are
made on a yearly basis to meet current student needs. Artifact 1: MTH 175 Tentative Homework
Assignment Sheet Course: Laboratory Calculus: MTH 175 Calculus of One
Variable Artifact
1.1:MTH 166 Tentative Homework Assignment
Sheet Course: Advanced Math
Analysis: MTH 166 Description: A Tentative Homework sheet
is distributed to students at the onset of the semester displaying sequence of material to be
covered and specific problems assigned as necessary practice
for mastery. Incorporated are break
points for administration of written
assignments
and major tests. Artifact 2: Lesson Notes on Curve Sketching Course: Laboratory Calculus: MTH 175 Calculus of One Variable Description: Class notes provided students via online
Blackboard posting displaying objective, detailed concepts/procedures used in
proper curve sketching and worked out example with
sketch provided. Resources used in the
development of notes are listed at the end
which includes three calculus textbooks and one online resource.
