Performance Standard 4: Assessment of and for Student
Learning The teacher systematically gathers, analyzes, and uses all
relevant data to measure student academic progress, guide instructional
content and delivery methods, and provide timely feedback to both students
and parents throughout the school year. Reflexive
Statement: Students are allowed ample time to
practice lesson concepts and ask questions prior to any assessment of
learning. Lessons concepts are
presented and examples modeled and discussed with students followed by
selective, coordinating homework problem assignments which gives the student
opportunity for learning and mastery.
Any grade taken on homework is for effort of completion only and
carries a small percentage of student’s final grade. Students are permitted to ask questions
related to the homework prior to any assessment. Learning resources and aides are posted to
Blackboard the enhance the learning process such as detailed worked out
problems via notes, solutions to assigned problems, and links to available internet
resources. Once students have had the
opportunity to ask questions, a short quiz (DLQ: daily lesson quiz which may
be announced or unannounced) may be administered to assess student mastery of
the lesson basics. These are promptly
graded in detail and returned to students by the next class meeting;
solutions are posted and discussed with the class. Periodically a written assignment designed
in more depth, utilizing applications of lesson concepts, or areas of
weakness displayed on DLQs is given for which students may use nonhuman
resources as an aid. All graded papers
are retained by students throughout the semester providing them the
opportunity to maintain a record of their performance; these are returned on
the final exam day. Six weeks grades
are posted to the Blackboard grading center to enable student access to
course performance and running average for the class. Artifact 1: DLQ Basic Derivatives Course: Laboratory Calculus: MTH
