Performance Standard 6: Professionalism

The teacher maintains a commitment to professional ethics, communicates effectively, and takes responsibility for and participates in professional growth that results in enhanced student learning.

Commendations/Recommendations Working with a Peer

Professionalism involves working with not only the students, but also other faculty and community members.  In the spring I worked with another faculty member on developing commendations and recommendations in preparation for the school state evaluation this fall.  Together we looked at different aspects of the facilities and the administration.  We pointed out the positive aspects and made suggestions for improvement.

E-mail Correspondence

Effective communication with parents, students, and community members is essential for a successful learning environment.  This artifact includes two e-mails from previous students, an e-mail from a parent, and a response from the Superintendent in response to the parent’s e-mail.  The e-mails from both the parent and superintendent really highlight the way in which I handled a bad situation in a professional manner for the safety and benefit of the student involved.  Indeed teaching involves great communication skills for the success of the students.
